Saving for Kurban: What a Goat or Cow Costs Now, and a Monthly Plan to Pay for It

A goat for kurban cost Rp2.45 million at Baznas in May 2026. A share of a cow (one seventh) cost Rp3 million. Save Rp410.000 a month starting next month, and a kurban savings plan for a goat is paid off before Eid al-Adha 2027.
That is the whole idea. This guide shows the prices, why they jump near Eid, and how to turn them into a monthly number you can live with.
Kurban is the animal sacrifice during Eid al-Adha. Many families do it every year. It is a big one-time cost, so it helps to plan early.
Baznas is Indonesia's national zakat agency. Its public kurban catalog is a handy price reference because it lists weights and prices.
For Eid al-Adha on 27 May 2026, the Baznas catalog listed (Katadata Databoks, via search summary):
| Animal | Weight | Price per animal |
|---|---|---|
| Goat or sheep, standard | 21 to 26 kg | Rp2.450.000 |
| Goat, medium | Rp2.900.000 | |
| Goat, premium | 30 to 33 kg | Rp3.100.000 |
| One seventh of a cow | Rp3.000.000 | |
| Whole cow | 250 to 300 kg | Rp21.000.000 |
Sources: Katadata Databoks and RCTI+, both seen through search summaries on 15 October 2026.
Prices differ by city. Baznas Riau listed a goat at Rp3,5 million and Baznas Kepulauan Riau at Rp3 million, with a whole cow at Rp21 million in both (Babel Insight, via search summary).
Near Eid, yes, in many places. At the Baznas catalog, less clearly.
In Tulungagung, East Java, an adult goat reportedly went from Rp2 to 2,5 million to Rp3 to 5 million as Eid came closer (Antara Jatim, via search summary). Demand jumps, and sellers raise prices.
The Ministry of Agriculture said national supply was about 3,25 million animals against a need of about 2,36 million. So the rise was blamed on distribution costs, not a shortage (Bisnis.com, via search summary).
A year-on-year percentage is harder. I could not find a like-for-like Baznas catalog for 2025 and 2026. One report put Baznas cow prices for 2025 at about Rp21 million as well (detikHikmah, via search summary). That suggests the catalog was flat for cows, while local markets moved more.
So do not trust one fixed "yearly rise". Add a cushion instead.
Here is the simple method. It is NetWort arithmetic, not a forecast.
Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected around 16 to 17 May 2027. The government sets the date after a moon-sighting meeting, so treat it as a guess for now (Wego, via search summary).
If you start in November 2026 and pay six times, up to April 2027, the monthly amounts look like this:
| Goal | Price in 2026 | With 10% cushion | Per month for 6 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard goat | Rp2.450.000 | Rp2.695.000 | about Rp450.000 |
| Premium goat | Rp3.100.000 | Rp3.410.000 | about Rp570.000 |
| One seventh of a cow | Rp3.000.000 | Rp3.300.000 | about Rp550.000 |
Without the cushion, a standard goat is about Rp410.000 a month. The cushion costs you Rp40.000 more per month and protects you from a price surprise.
A whole cow at Rp21 million is far bigger. Many people share it between seven, which is why the one-seventh price exists.
Keep it somewhere you can reach on a set date. Cash needs to be ready in May, so avoid anything that can fall in value the month before. A savings account or a money market fund fits a goal this close. A stock does not.
A simple habit: set up a standing transfer on payday, and label the money "kurban" so you do not spend it.
Prices at Istiqlal Mosque in 2026 started at Rp4 million for a goat of 25 kg and Rp25 million for a 250 kg cow (GoodStats, via search summary). Local prices can sit well above the national catalog, so use yours.
Add a kurban goal to your plan, then track the savings. Open your NetWort holdings, add the account or fund where the kurban money sits, and watch it grow toward the target each month.
