A One-Page List of Everything You Own: Why Your Family Needs It

Picture your phone is lost and you cannot be reached for a month. Your partner needs to pay a bill from your account. Your parents wonder if you had any investments at all.
Could they find anything? Most people would say no.
A list of assets for family fixes this. It is one page that says what you own, where it is, and who knows how to reach it. This post shows you what goes on it. It takes about 30 minutes.
Money does not vanish when its owner is unreachable. It just becomes hard to find.
A bank account sits still. Shares sit in a custody account (a record kept at a central depository, not at your broker). A land certificate sits in a drawer. If nobody knows these exist, nobody claims them.
For crypto the problem is sharper. Whoever holds the private key controls the coins, and no helpdesk can reset it. We covered that in our post on what happens to crypto when the owner dies.
A list does not solve all of this. It does solve the first step: knowing what exists.
Make one page with six boxes. Write only what a person needs to find the asset. Do not write passwords on it.
1. Bank accounts and deposits. Bank name, account type, branch if relevant. Add any time deposit (deposito) and any dormant account you have forgotten.
2. Stocks and mutual funds. Which broker or fund seller you use. Also note your investor ID, called SID (Single Investor Identification), assigned by KSEI, the Indonesian securities depository. According to a search summary of KSEI's guide, KSEI's AKSes portal shows the positions and movements in your securities sub-account, and the movement history goes back 30 days. So one login there can show what you hold. We did not open the KSEI guide itself, so check the portal for what it shows today.
3. Crypto and exchange accounts. Name each exchange and each wallet. Say where the recovery phrase is kept, not what it says. See our guide on storing a seed phrase safely.
4. Property and land. Where the original certificate (sertifikat) is kept, and in whose name it is registered. According to search summaries of Indonesian property guides, the land office asks for the original certificate when a title is moved to heirs. If the paper is lost, that is a much bigger job. Ask your local land office what applies to you.
5. Gold, watches, jewellery and art. What it is, where it is, and where the receipt or certificate is. Our post on valuing collectibles explains how to put a number on it.
6. Insurance, pension and debts. Policy numbers, insurers, BPJS or pension accounts, and loans you still owe. Debts matter too. Your family should see them before a lender calls.
Do not expect a bank to hand over money on a phone call. According to search summaries of Indonesian news and legal explainers, banks usually ask for a death certificate, the ID and family card of the person claiming, and proof that they are an heir. Some also ask for a certificate of heirs (surat keterangan ahli waris), issued by the local office or a notary. Rules differ by bank and by case, and sometimes a court decision is needed.
The point for your list: your family will need a bit of paperwork. The list tells them which banks to ask first.

Copy this into a note or a spreadsheet.
| Asset | Where it is | In whose name | Who knows | Papers are in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Savings account | Bank A | Your name | Partner | Drawer, folder 1 |
| Mutual fund | App B, SID noted | Your name | Sibling | Email folder "Assets" |
| Crypto | Exchange C | Your name | Partner | Recovery phrase in safe |
| House | Land office record | Joint | Parents | Safe at home |
| Gold bars | Home safe | You | Partner | Receipts in folder 2 |
The rows above are examples. They are not real accounts.
Two rules.
Never write passwords or recovery phrases on the list. Write where they are. A list that leaks should not hand over your money.
Review it twice a year. Set a calendar reminder. Every time you open an account, buy property or close a loan, update one line.
Tell one trusted person where the list is. A list nobody can find is the same as no list.
A list is not a will. It does not decide who inherits what. Inheritance in Indonesia depends on your religion, your family and your wishes, and the right setup is a conversation with a notary. The list simply makes that conversation, and your family's life, easier.
Open Holdings and add every stock, fund, crypto position and manual asset you own. Holdings then shows your whole picture in one place, and you can copy it into your one-page list. Do it once today, then refresh it twice a year.
